I write.
  • One novel and two non-fiction books . . . so far.
  • Oodles of stories for dozens of magazines, beginning at LIFE magazine back when LIFE still mattered, as well as Vanity FairFortune, Travel + Leisure, Sports IllustratedThis Old House, and many more.

I edit.
  • A few years ago I founded Skybox Press, now the leading custom publisher of distinctive sports commemorative books.

I keep my priorities straight.
  1. My infinitely better half, Lisa.  We met our first week freshman year at the University of Oregon and have both kept our word and our sense of humor.
  2. Our daughter and three sons.  Proof that Lisa and I have done at least four things right.
  3. Our relatives, friends, and pets.  Prioritized depending on the day.
  4. My work.  I abide the words of a wise man who once said, "A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds."
  5. My teams.  San Francisco Giants, Oregon Ducks, San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Bruins, Portland Timbers, Liverpool, Team Sweden.

I do not:
  • Feel compelled to spend time or money creating a fancy web site.
  • Like the designated hitter rule in baseball.
  • Engage in political discourse on social media; that is what pubs are for.

I say:
  • I used to work hard, and then I learned to work smart.

I hope to:
  • Speak fluent Swedish.
  • Surf more.
  • Coach again.
